Blog Action Day is definitely one of the cooler concepts to have emerged in the last few years. This year, more than 14,000 bloggers, everyone from corporate bloggers at Google and You Tube to influential pundits like Mashable's Pete Cashmore and Read/WriteWeb's Richard MacManus are showing their support. Kudos to Collis and the Eden team for putting together a stellar initiative.
We at BuzzLogic are proud to be a part of the cause, and offer insight on how we are doing our part to help reverse some of the trends we are seeing with global warming. Recently, we have been batting around a few ideas for how to make our office more eco-friendly. Really, it is a list of common sense tactics that never hurt to be reinforced and mindful of. A few of these to consider:
1) Out with the plastic and paper. The next time you reach for a paper cup
or plate, why not seek an alternative and use a personal ceramic mug or plate? And when you go to wash, use it as an opportunity to take a few deep breaths while away from your chaotic desk.
2) Go dark. save energy by turning off lights in conference rooms not in use. Sometimes that darkness can be surprisingly soothing, especially when you are dealing with bright halogen lights on a daily basis.
3) Live electronically. Everytime you go to hit the print button on your
computer, ask yourself this question...Do I really need to see this on paper, or can I share, edit or proof read it electronically, via a shared resource like an internal blog or wiki? Simply having that frame of mind will help cut down on paper waste through printing.
There are countless ways to make an impact...from talking to your purchasing department and encouraging more eco-friendly policies, to mixing up your commute with the public transportation options available to you. It is all about taking that first step.
