So, how exactly does BuzzLogic figure out influence? BuzzLogic’s patented technology and approach rely on two primary components:

BuzzLogic Conversation Index

Regular search indexes are essentially massive libraries of reference material; the overarching theme here is bigger is better. BuzzLogic’s index isn’t about producing massive quantities of research on a subject— if that’s what you’re after, there’s no beating Google. Instead, BuzzLogic is looking for what people who are knowledgeable and influential on a particular subject are actually saying. To successfully do this, BuzzLogic’s Conversation Index only crawls content that others have deliberately linked to—that means no spam, no link farms, no “splogs.” Secondly, BuzzLogic’s index uniquely follows influence outside the realm of social media. To give customers a 360 degree view of the conversation, the index counts blogs, social networks and other social media (YouTube, MySpace), corporate sites and approximately 8,000 mainstream media outlets.

BuzzLogic Influence Algorithms

BuzzLogic’s algorithms take more than a dozen factors into consideration when determining influence. A key piece is the ability to determine both the influence of the people discussing a certain topic, and the composition of the audience linking in to (or “listening”) to that conversation. This means both the relevance and overall popularity of an individual post, along with the relevance and popularity of all in-linking posts, are dynamically measured to truly determine both the volume and the quality of attention a specific piece of content receives at any given moment. Influence is measured all the way down to the “permalink”—which means users can see whether a specific individual post or person currently is or is becoming influential. The algorithms also factor in time, to demonstrate growing or diminishing credibility.
